Our Structure

The United Methodist Church does not have a central headquarters or a single executive leader. Duties are divided among bodies that include the General Conference, the Council of Bishops, and the Judicial Council.

These entities are required by our Constitution to be part of our structure. Each plays a significant role in the life of the church, and each exists to help local congregations like ours worship God, proclaim the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and grow in Christian fellowship.

General Conference

The top legislative body of the denomination, meeting periodically to set church-wide policy, doctrine, and the Book of Discipline.

Council of Bishops

The collective body of all active and retired bishops, providing spiritual and temporal leadership for the denomination as a whole.

Judicial Council

The denomination's highest court, ruling on the constitutionality of church legislation and resolving questions of church law.

Our Congregation in Brisbane

Locally, our life together is organised into six bodies:

• Lay Leaders — the Lay Leader and the Associate Lay Leader.
• Church Council — Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary.
• Connectional Ministries (CM) — Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary, with our seven ministries beneath it: Nurturing, Witnessing, Outreach, Communications, MUMC, RRW and UMYF.
• Staff Pastor Parish Relations (SPPR) — Chair, Vice Chair and committee members.
• Finance — Finance Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, Treasurer and Vice Treasurer, and the Finance Secretary.
• Board of Trustees (BOT) — Chair, Vice Chair and committee members.
